Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

This is a pay-down CSA. Prior to any delivery, you must return a signed copy of this form and payment, or first installment. This will entitle you to receive meats, cheeses, dairy products, eggs and any other item we carry at our farm. Fifty (50) shares are currently available.

Duration of Share

Shares will be valid for 1 year from the date that you join the CSA. They will expire at 5:00 PM 1 year from that day. All orders must be picked up prior to that time. Shares will be available until November 15th. Thereafter, shares may be available based on initial enrollment. Any shareholder who wants to add-on to their share may do so after using the full-value of their share provided that doing so will not impact product availability for the other members.

Delivery/Pick-up

Deliveries will be made to two locations. The first of these will be will be to the parking lot just behind the AT&T store on Roosevelt Trail in Windham, ME starting October 24, 2009 and continuing every Saturday thereafter until the Lakes Region Farmer’s Market begins again in May. I will be there from 10:00-11:00 AM. The second delivery location, from 2:00-3:00 PM, also starting on October 24, 2009, will be at the Super Marden’s (the old Wal*Mart) parking lot in Scarborough, ME. This delivery will continue every Saturday thereafter as well, but only until the Scarborough Farmer’s Market starts up again. You may pick up at either location, or here on the farm. Let me know your preferred location.
Please note that both the day/time and the location are subject to change. If they do change, I will give you as much notice as I can beforehand. Delivery is made at no charge.

Failure to pick up

If you fail to pick up a delivery, or have someone else pick it up for you, you will need to come to the farm to get your order. In the event that you do not pick up your order there, all frozen foods, such as meats, will be put back into the store freezers and made available to other members with no charge to you. Unfortunately, any perishable items, such as soft cheeses, milks, and yogurts, will be billed to your account.

Ordering

Before placing your order, check out our website, http://udderandfiber.com/products.html to see if your desired item is available. If the item has a strikethrough font (that looks like this) the item is not currently available. If it is available, please send your order via email to edwright@udderandfiber.com. If you want fresh goat cheeses or fresh chicken, your order must be placed no later than 9:00 PM the Monday prior to delivery. All other orders containing dairy products must be received by noon on the Wednesday prior to delivery. We will accept frozen meat orders until Friday at noon for Saturday delivery.
Upon receipt of your order I will check the availability of the item you ordered. It is possible that someone placed an order prior to you for the item desired. Orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis. If available, I will pick it, weigh it, price it and bag it for you. I will then send you a return email that will list your starting balance, items purchased with the weight and price, and an ending balance See the example below. I will bring a copy of this email with me when you pick up that you will need to sign.

CSA Share for “My Wife and I”
Starting Balance:                                                             $360.00
1.06 lbs Ground Beef Patties @$5.09/lb                            -$5.40
3.54 lbs Ham, Smoked, Shank Portion @$6.99/lb            -$24.74
Ending Balance                                                                $329.86

Special Purchases

Periodically, I will make special purchases or offer certain products for a limited time. Venison is a good example of this, as is honey from Gentle Breeze Farm and locally made soaps by Pleasant River Soap Co. These items and their prices will be made known to you through the newsletter (see below).

Refunds

The average American ate 217.9 pounds of meat in 2008. Cheese consumption in 2006 (the latest data available) was 32.5 pounds; they ate 4.7 lbs of butter and drank over 25 gallons of milk in one year. All of these items are available in this CSA, so you should have no difficulty using the full share value in one year. As such refunds will not be given.

Inclement Weather

Being in Maine, we periodically get some bad weather during the winter months. For some reason, this seems to always happen on the weekends (of course this could just be bad memory on my part but…J). In the event of predicted bad weather check your email 2 hours before your scheduled pick up. I will try to give you more notice than just the 2 hours, but that is my last opportunity to postpone. I will send you an email if the pick up for that day has been postponed. I will try to deliver either later in the day, if the storm is scheduled to stop by then, or on Sunday. However, storms sometimes last longer. In these rare events, you would need to pick up at the farm here in Limington. I will apologize now for this inconvenience.

Newsletter

Each week I will send out an email newsletter. Inside of this newsletter you could find recipes, a one week sale on a particular item, upcoming special purchases, notice of items that sold out, and items that have just come in again. Please feel free to send me any recipes or items of interest that I should include in the newsletter. If appropriate, I will add it to the newsletter.
Additionally, I will often ask for your input on product decisions. For example, one question could be on the level of interest that members have to carrying chicken in the CSA (which, by-the-way, we now do). Your feedback will be truly appreciated.

Vacations

There will be no delivery during the weekend of November 7th and 8th. My wife and I will be attending the MOFGA Farmer to Farmer conference. Additionally, subject still to cancellation or postponement, we are planning on taking a 9 day vacation in December. During this vacation, which would cover 2 weekends, we will try to find someone to deliver the meats but dairy products for the end weekend will not be available. At present we are considering leaving on December 5th.

Product Availability

It is possible that some product may not be available from time-to-time. This is especially true for limited items such as Flank Steaks, Skirt Steaks, Baby Back Ribs, etc. You have my apologies when this occurs. We cannot be held responsible for these events nor for other events that limit availability.

Payments

A full CSA share entitle you to receive Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) worth of meat, cheese, dairy product, egg or any other item we carry at our farm. A half CSA share entitles you to Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) of product. The following payment options are available.

  • Full share, paid in advance: Three Hundred and Sixty Dollars ($360.00). This is a 10% discount.
  • Full Share, 4-pay: Ninety Five Dollars ($95.00), paid 4 times. This is a 5% discount. The first payment is due at signup, with additional payments due every 30 days until paid in full.
  • Full Share, 6-pay: Sixty Five Dollars ($65.00), paid 6 times. This is a 2.5% discount. The first payment is due at signup, with additional payments due every 30 days until paid in full.
  • Half Share, paid in advance: One Hundred Ninety Dollars ($190.00). This is a 5% discount.
  • Half Share, 4-pay: Fifty Dollars ($50.00), paid 4 times. There is no discount with this option, but there is free delivery. The first payment is due at signup, with additional payments due every 30 days until paid in full.

If you choose one of the multi-pay options, you may only purchase goods up to the amount you have paid until the balance is fully paid. For example, if you selected the full share, 4-pay option, during the first month you would only be able to receive up to $95.00 worth of goods.

Splitting Shares

You are welcome to split a share with someone. However, share-splitting is the responsibility of the member who signed up for the share. We don’t manage the splitting of shares. This includes payment: the person signing up for the share is responsible for the payment. You should pay us for your full share, and have your share-splitter reimburse you for their half. Also, we will not separate your order for you. Finally, we will only accept email orders from the account of record for the share. All of these things help me to keep the records straight.
